Bare Opera’s FireSongs by Thomas Cabaniss is a song recital in motion. Moments of change that span lifetimes. A shared embodiment of poetry and song. There are moments of ignition, conflict, respite, and reckoning. Director Malena Dayen creates a multi-layered world of film, light, and images that surrounds the singers as they travel from here to the end.FireSongs is based on poems by Maya Angelou, W. H. Auden, Wendell Berry, Walt Hudgins, Douglas Langworthy, Evelyn Lowe, Josephine Pinckney, Tracy K. Smith, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Mark Strand. Firesongs premiered at Chelsea Factory in New York City in June 2022 and was reviewed by Operawire.
